Between Mali and Milton, food in this house is a pain in the arse.
Mali is stable now, though getting too much protein.
Milton has had ongoing problems since he arrived here. It turns out he has a toxin from too much Clostridum; he also has roundworms. On top of that, I believe he has a major sensitivity to both grains and chicken.
For the last few weeks we have battled diarrhea, not absorbing food, pooping 15 times a day, itchiness, teary eyes, etc.
He’s gone from Canidae ALS, to raw diet, to Go! Natural, to Wellness Super5Mix puppy. On the Canidae he had diarrhea, on the raw diet he had very weepy eyes and major itchiness, on the Go! Natural he pooped 15 times a day, on the Wellness again he had itchiness and weepy eyes.
Now he’s on California Natural Lamb and Rice puppy food. And guess what? Beautifully formed stools, 2-3x/day. No teary eyes, minimal itch.
This is what he’ll stay on forever, with a switch over to the adult version when he’s a bit over a year old, though possibly one of Natura’s other brands like Evo. Not sure. Whatever it is has to be grain-free and chicken-free. Oh, I believe he’s also lactose or dairy intolerant, so no dairy.
I’m relieved to have finally found a dietary situation that suits him. He’s not as “bounce off the walls” as he was previously either, though he’s certainly playful and active.
I hope that I’ve finally figured it out. I think I have.
(and I knew goldens have food sensitivity issues, but gawd, what a pain in the butt!)
