Dizzyness and the doctor

So, I saw Dr. Hicken. He was booked out but came into the wrong room so had a quick look.  I’m very happy it was Dr. Hicken that saw me.  He is worried that I have something called something like “Sudden Hearing Loss Syndrome”.  I think I got that wrong, but anyway.  If this is not diagnosed and treated aggressively within a few days, it can become permanent hearing loss.

On the happier side, he thinks it may just be allergies.

On the scarier side, it could be Meniere’s Disease; a possibly as my mom suffers from that.

So, I’m on Prednisone for the allergies/potential hearing loss, and Meclizine for the dizzy.  The Prednisone should help my cough as well, which we think is just allergies.

I’m really hopeful it’s just allergies.

When mom asked what I was going to do if it was Meniere’s, the first thing I responded with was, “get a service dog”.  Elka was never trained as a balance dog, isn’t big enough, and doesn’t enjoy the work.  If I really do have Meniere’s, then that’s a new situation and I will seek out a highly-trained giant breed (Dane/Mastiff?) to be with me at all times, both to alert and to catch.

But I’m really, really, really hopeful it’s just allergies.  I don’t want hearing loss, and I don’t want a life of dizzy spells.  I certainly don’t want to be trapped in an MRI, which I will be on Monday if the meds don’t help, or if I go off them and this comes back.

Please, please let this just be allergies.
