@stinhambo See, that's what my intention is. This virus may be one of the better things to happen to my diet. Heh. =) posted Jul-28 at 6:57pm

Mali and an adventure in food

Mali becomes anorexic at the drop of a hat.  It’s really hard to get her eating once it starts too.

She was eating really well on the cypro, but she was sleeping an incredible amount.  So we took her off of it, hoping that her levels were good enough that she’d feel ok to eat.

She didn’t for a week.  She had gained 7oz on cypro and she lost 6oz off of it.

So today I gave her Mirtazapine.  This made her very vocal, but she calmed down without any help.  Unfortunately, while it made her eat, she also vomited up all that she had eaten.  This was a problem when she was on it last time, so this time she’s getting half the dose.  Didn’t help.

So Mirtazapine isn’t the answer.

Mali is normally a very active cat.  She sleeps with me at night but only sleeps 2-4 hours during the day, choosing to sun-bathe, play, groom, converse, and cuddle.
. So now there’s a choice, it seems to me.  A cat that sleeps 22+ hours a day and is always “foggy” and lethargic, but is affectionate and loving when awake and eats well; or, a normal, active bengal that slowly wastes away.

Neither seems like a great quality of life to me, but I certainly can’t let her waste away.  Will have to discuss the options with the vet tomorrow.

Update me tomorrow after the vet please. I’m hoping for the Malicat to go back to eating and being normal.

Spoke to the vet.  She’s back on cypro, off Metranodizole for a variety of reasons, including that the cypro was helping to keep her white blood cell count down.

We’ll have to play with the dose to try to get a good appetite with some activity.

This is exhausting.  I had forgotten just how exhausting it is.
