Milton’s Trials and Tribulations

Milton hasn’t had the easiest transition into my household.

Last week on Wednesday I had to get him to the vet in a bit of a hurry as he’d been having bad diarrhea.  As it turns out, he’s completely parasite free, but had stress colitis.  He went on a diet of boiled rice and boiled hamburger, as well as Metranidazole (antibiotic) and Forti Flora (Probiotic).

Oh, and because of this I missed Cats.  But Milton is much more important than Cats.

Friday he was doing much better, no more diarrhea.  So he went into daycare for a few hours.  I picked up and he was tired but perfectly fine.  I got him home and the two dogs were laying outside, each chewing on their own toy while I told chatted with them.  It got cold so I decided to come in, turned around and watched Milton: he wasn’t using his rear right leg.

I spoke to Patsy and she said to give it a day and see if he was doing better.  Saturday he was using, gently, his leg when walking, which was an improvement.  Today he is doing better again, a bit stiff but able to trot using it.  He’s not in the least bit painful, and I can’t seem to find a point on him where he’s uncomfortable.  If this was a break he’d be screaming and painful.  If he’s not 100% by Wednesday I’ll take him back to the vet, but right now he’s showing enough progress to be satisfactory.

Elka last week was a mopey, tired, silly girl and i was very worried about her.  But after Friday, with a day off from Milton and some one on one bonding time, including a very wet walk, she was doing much better.  Saturday we had therapy class and she was brilliant (with a few exceptions, as is her standard, and even her exceptions are brilliant).  Ever since then she’s been playing well with Milton, spending time napping out in the main room with both of us and not being as mopey and not spending 24/7 under my bed.

I think they like each other.  Mali is definitely starting to like Milton.

I today told the rescue coordinator that I’m not sure I can adopt him out.  I think that Milton may have just found his forever home, but I’ll know more next week, after he’s been 100% for a little while.  He’s fitting in so incredibly well and I’m so in love with him; it’s very hard to imagine not having him here.  I’ve not been this attached to a foster in the past.

In any case, things are looking good, hopefully I can get him tip top and see what he’s like at full health, but it’s about 95% that he won’t be leaving….
