My love of swimming, CrossFit stole that love

This evening I went to LA Fitness and did some laps then aqua aerobics.  12 laps, and an hour of aqua aerobics.

it was 1h 12 minutes.  I did quit Aqua Aerobics a bit early because I was shivering.

In 1h 12m I burned ~360 calories.  During all of Aqua Aerobics my heart-rate was ~113 bpm even though I was pushing as hard and as fast as possible.

More importantly, I was bored.  I kept looking at the clock.

Because the pool is kept at a comfortable temperature for vigorous swimming, I was cold so I got out of the pool near the end and went straight into the hot tub until the coldness went away, then into the sauna for a few minutes, which felt awesome.

Swimming laps in the pool -one of my favorite exercise pre-CrossFit, was ... awfully boring too.  My brain wasn’t in the game.  It was hard to push the intensity through the redundancy of the workout.  I missed the social and varied aspect of CF.

On the way out of the gym I got the form to cancel my membership.

CrossFit is the right place for me.  Even not being a social person, I love the social atmosphere.  I love the short, high intensity nature of the workouts, and I love that somewhere down the line I’ll not only be at a better body composition, but I’ll have muscle definition and real strength.  I know my benchmark for swimming; perhaps in a year I’ll get in the pool and blow that benchmark out of the water, eh?

CrossFit again tomorrow night at 6:30, and a 4 hour CF/Paleo foundations class on Saturday.  Sunday a day of rest.  I’m already looking forward to tomorrow evening’s workout.

It feels good finding not only an exercise that’s good for me but one that I look forward to and enjoy.
