I am now fostering for OFOSA. They seem to be a fantastic group, and even maintain their own clinic.
The darling puppy in the picture is my first foster for them, her name is Sydney. With OFOSA, you get to choose from groups of dogs that they save from very high kill shelters (150 dogs/day put down!). There were approximately 30 dogs to choose from today, and several litters of puppies, including pit mixes and chihuahua mixes. I chose Sydney because, well, she’s freaking adorable.
I may foster adults in the future, but as I’m traveling for a week, leaving in about 3 weeks, we thought that a more adoptable puppy would be best. If you can believe it, their speed for getting puppies forever homes is approximately ONE WEEK, with adults being approximately 2 weeks. That’s pretty amazing to me.
And of course, this pup is only about 3lbs, so less than half Mali’s size. Mali isn’t worried about this girl at all. Never seen Mali come out so quickly after I brought in a new foster. I’m sure it helps that Sydney is fast asleep, too.
Sydney is a bit nervous about my two very large (compared to her) outgoing and playful dogs. But this is a great socialization experience for her, and I have a feeling she’ll be playing with them pretty quickly. Right now she’s passed out. 8 week old puppies sleep a lot; they’re not insane until about 16 weeks old. =)
In any case, Sydney here will be available during the OFOSA event at PetSmart on Saturday (12-4 usually, I think longer this weekend due to Valentine’s Day special event) if anyone is interested in adopting her. Or contact me, I can get you in touch with OFOSA. =)
I’m excited about this new fostering experience. This rescue works much differently than Golden Bond, and I’ll likely have foster dogs much more frequently if I want to.
More pictures coming soon!
